		<abstract>The Amazon biome is one of the worlds most important ecosystem and under constant threat. The environmental concerns resulting from the process of land occupation in the Amazon have led the Brazilian Federal Government to implement actions to combat the deforestation in the region. The State of Mato Grosso has experienced a rapid process of land cover conversion in the last decades, which is still poorly documented. It is important to investigate the land use and cover change (LUCC) in order to define strategies that stimulate both environmental conservation and regional development. In 2011, TerraClass Project was initiated, a partnership between Embrapa and INPE, for mapping and monitoring the land use and land cover in the deforested portion of the Legal Amazon. In this context, the objective of this work was to identify, quantify and analyze the LUCC in the Sinop and Alto Teles Pires microregions, representative of important dynamics in the north of Mato Grosso, using 2004 and 2014 mappings produced by TerraClass. The thematic class that more expanded in ten years was Annual Agriculture, with 8,621 km², representing a growth of 78.70%, mainly occupying the pasturelands, an evidence of the process of change from the livestock production system to the intensive agricultural production system in the region. Although the region have lost approximately 4,766 km² of forests from 2004 to 2014, mainly for pastures, deforestation showed a significant reduction of 92.48%, which is related to the actions in combating deforestation in the Amazon.</abstract>
